Improper shimming can lead to equipment failure just as quickly as not shimming at all. Over-stacking shim sheet metal, mixing incompatible materials, or failing to clean the contact surface can all reduce the effectiveness of your alignment.

Always match the shim material to your application. Use stainless steel shims for high-performance, corrosive, or high-temperature environments. When more elevation is needed or the base is uneven, an ss shim plate provides the required stability. In less demanding or delicate environments, a brass shim sheet ensures fine adjustments without causing damage. Avoid shortcuts—precision starts with understanding and properly applying your shim strategy.
